In a
Des Moines Register poll released today, Huckabee takes third place among likely Republican caucus participants at 12%. He now leads Rudy Giuliani and John McCain in Iowa, as well as taking first place among caucus-goers who say their minds are made up, and second place among Christian voters.
Support for former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Arizona Sen. John McCain has eroded.
Giuliani, at 11 percent, is in a virtual tie with Huckabee for third place. But his level of support was 6 points higher in the Register’s last presidential poll in May. McCain and Giuliani ran neck-and-neck then as the nearest challengers to Romney. Thompson wasn’t included in the May poll because he hadn’t declared his candidacy.
McCain, who has had to retool his national campaign, has dropped to fifth place in the latest Iowa Poll, at 7 percent.
Among the one-fourth of likely caucus participants who say their minds are made up, Huckabee comes out on top with 19 percent, followed by Romney at 16 percent and Thompson at 15 percent.
Romney leads among those identifying themselves as born-again Christians, at 23 percent. But not far behind are Huckabee at 18 percent and Thompson at 16 percent.

I don't want to be considered a spammer but Mike Huckabee's view on Education is an unconstitutional one. Here is a quote by Mike Huckabee
"My three children were the first children of any Arkansas governor in at least 50 years who spent their first through senior high education entirely in the public schools of Arkansas. My wife and I are ourselves products of public schools. For us, there was no option as we grew up in families that could not have afforded a private school had one even existed in our hometown."
I really respect his view on the social issues. But he is not as strict on the Constitution that I would like him to be. He also says we should pay the teachers that are in the Government schools that should not even exist.
As I said, I'm not trying to be rude or anything. Just some food for thought.

Ben, many Christian conservatives wish that our country could just get rid of the Department of Education and the whole public school system. But in reality, it's not that simple.
I mean, even if the Founding Fathers were alive today, I don't think they'd recommend just cutting all funding to public schools, just because public schools aren't constitutional. They're here and their ingrained in the whole fabric of American society. The solution is not a legal one — that's why I'm so big on the homeschool movement.
Speaking of homeschooling, Huckabee is the strongest supporter (of all the candidates) on that issue. I'm sure that's one of the reasons he has been endorsed by the Homeschool Legal Defense Association PAC.

I think both of ya are wrong on this. Ben, your comment had NOTHING to do with the post. The Dept. of Education is constitutional. Stop smoking your libertarian weed.

I think a lot of Christian Conservatives are more afraid of secular indoctrination than they are of public education. Like Gov. Huckabee will tell you, not all public schools are bad ones. The public school I went to were better than the private Christian schools in our area.
Regarding home schooling - while I respect a parent's right to home school a child, I don't think it's always the best thing for the kid. The homeschooled people I've met in the military and civilian world tend to have a hard time communicating with superiors and usually display some lack of knowledge regarding basic social studies. I shouldn't have to explain the electoral college to an incredibly intelligent adult woman.
And many parents CAN'T homeschool their kids or afford a private education. Without federal funds, many public schools would just collapse instantly, which isn't fair to the children being robbed of an education and to the parents who use the school hours for their own professions.
I'm not saying their isn't a need for reform and change, there is. But homeschooling and private schooling is not the answer.
